Marilyn Torchin is a self-declared Valley artist whose work has been featured in spaces throughout our Central Valley and along the California coast. She has been recognized for her creative works and has received a number of awards in various exhibitions such as the Big Fresno Fair.
This artist allows herself to observe life and interpret her experiences through her art. She provides a unique perspective on the mundane through her own brand of abstract realism. Marilyn utilizes special techniques developed over the years to create heavily saturated colors, depth, and contrast in her works. Her paintings are truly a process and come to life through layers guided by the artist’s experiences, senses, and the media itself.
Marilyn is passionate about painting en plein air. Plein air artists have explained that experiencing the environment in open air with all of your senses allows you to capture the “feeling” of a location which is far more telling than the visual alone. For example, while you may see a field of flowers in a photograph you do not smell the damp earth, feel the crisp breeze, or hear the trickling brook. Plein air artists paint outdoors in the setting they are capturing to allow them to “see with their senses” and interpret the true experience of the setting. In essence the plein air artist seeks to paint the scent of the damp earth, caress of the crisp breeze, and whisper of the trickling brook into their field of flowers.
Marilyn Torchin has been painting en plein air for some time. She has helped others discover their passion for painting en plein air through demonstrations. She is also a member of a local plein air painting group that meets regularly to experience and record the beauty of our golden state.
